DR. DAN TINGLEY PRESENTS FINDINGS FROM INSPECTION
Save Powder Point Bridge, Inc. was granted a temporary license by the Selectboard for Wood Research and Development to perform an inspection of the bridge. The data collected is currently being analyzed at their IAS accredited lab to develop rehabilitation recommendations, associated maintenance, and estimated costs. We expect to hear a practical, economically feasible, common-sense approach that not only allows Duxbury to preserve its most important community asset, but could also drastically minimize a bridge closure and long-term maintenance expenses.
So far, the town has only seen presentations from MassDOT that propose the complete replacement of our wooden bridge with a steel and concrete highway bridge. There is a broad consensus among Duxbury residents that this type of structure would not fit the quaint landscape of Duxbury Bay. At this meeting, you will learn new, positive information about the current condition of the wood from renowned timber expert, Dr. Dan Tingley. We hope you come to hear first hand how our beloved bridge can be saved.
This page will be updated as more information becomes available. In the meantime, here are some photos from their recent visit. You can also read more about The Tingley Group and Dr. Tingley’s lifelong passion for timber here:
Five people will decide the fate of our bridge.
